Training
Courses

Our training modules are fully adaptable and can be tailored to meet the specific needs of your organisation.

Each session addresses key challenges faced when supporting asylum seekers and refugees - covering safeguarding, advocacy, trauma-informed practice, and guidance for parents - while providing practical tools and strategies that can be applied directly in your workplace.

Life in the UK: Advice and Guidance for Asylum Seeking and Refugee Parents

We understand that many organisations face challenges when supporting families in the asylum process and newly granted refugees. We have heard directly from women seeking asylum about how difficult it can be to understand parenting expectations in an unfamiliar environment. To address this, we offer a bespoke training module for organisations that want to ensure their advice is accurate, culturally sensitive, and accessible. We can also provide tailored support in developing clear, easy-to-understand materials to help families navigate this area with confidence.

Safeguarding, Advice Principles and Boundaries

Drawing on our combined experience at Safer Foundations, we are acutely aware of the overlap between these areas and the importance of continually reflecting on and developing good practice to ensure safe and effective work. We offer bespoke training focused on this area of overlap, helping organisations build confidence and deliver high-quality, accessible support to their service users.

3

Safeguarding and Asylum Support Advocacy

Advocacy is a vital safeguarding tool - one that many practitioners use regularly without necessarily recognising it as part of safeguarding practice. We offer a bespoke training module designed to help advisors explore the relationship between advice, advocacy, asylum support, and safeguarding. This practical session builds confidence within teams and supports the development of good practice in advice and support work. Participants will gain a clearer understanding of how to use the most effective advocacy routes to achieve the safest outcomes for the people they support.

4

Practical Approaches to Working with Trauma

If you are supporting people who have been, or are currently, going through the asylum process, you are likely to be working around trauma in some way. We can help you understand what it means to work in a trauma-informed way - one that is not only theoretical but also practical within the day-to-day realities of your work. Our training offers accessible ways to understand the impact of trauma and explores how we can use our own practice to create safety and stability for the people we support.

Set Sessions

Alongside our in-depth, bespoke training courses, we also offer a series of shorter three-hour sessions that focus on the core issues organisations face when supporting people in the asylum and refugee context today.

These sessions are designed to respond to the realities of current practice, offering space for reflection, shared learning, and practical skill-building to strengthen confidence, safety, and effectiveness in your work.
