Where: This works well in person and can also be delivered online.
Length: Half or full day
The following modules can be offered as standalone sessions, or can be combined to create a bespoke full or half day training, online or in-person:
Safeguarding, Advice Principles and Boundaries
Given our combined experience at Safer Foundations, we are keenly aware of the overlap between these areas and the need to ensure we are reflecting on and developing good practice around them in order to be safe practitioners. We offer bespoke training on this area of overlap in order to help organisations build confidence and offer high quality support to their service users.
Safeguarding and Asylum Support Advocacy
Advocacy is an important safeguarding tool and one you may use all the time without necessarily thinking about it as safeguarding. We have designed a module of training that helps advisors to think through the relationship between advice and advocacy relating to asylum support, and safeguarding. This will help to build confidence in teams and develop good practice in advice and support work. This is a practical session designed to ensure you are using the most effective advocacy routes to achieve the best and safest outcomes for the people you support.
Practical Approaches to Working with Trauma
If you are providing support to people who have been or are going through the asylum process you are likely to be working around trauma in one way or another. We will support you to understand what it means to work in a trauma informed way, in a way that is not only theoretical but practical and easily related to the day to day demands of your work; offering accessible ways of understanding the impact of trauma and how we can use ourselves to create safety for the people we support.
Providing Advice and
Guidance to Asylum Seeking and Refugee Parents
We know that many people grapple with this in their support for families who are in the asylum process and newly granted refugees, and we have heard first hand from women asylum seekers about their struggle to understand what the expectations on them are as parents in an environment that is new to them. We offer a bespoke module of training to organisations who want to ensure their advice around this is sound and accessible. We also offer support around developing easy to understand guidance documents on this area of support.
Mental Health in the
Asylum System
Recognising the impact that the asylum seeking and refugee experience can have on mental health, this module will acknowledge the potential causes of mental ill health in this context and look at avenues of support and advocacy.
Staying Safe in the Face of
Far Right Threat
This module covers some of the practical steps individuals and organisation may have to consider, as well dynamic risk assessment, information sharing and how to stay safe.
Safeguarding Governance Training
This session is designed for trustees to guide them in their support for organisations around safeguarding and increase understanding of the important role trustees have in relation to safeguarding.
Working with Suicidal Ideation
This session will support you to reflect on what is often a deeply difficult area of work but one that is common for us to encounter. Together, we will look at safe responses to working with suicidal ideation.
